Eruv

Eruv: unknown

No eruv for Aspen or Vail is mentioned on the Chabad Vail visitor pages or anywhere else we could read, and none was found for Aspen. Treat both towns as having no eruv until the rabbi confirms (Aspen 970-544-3770, Vail 970-688-2613). Nov 2026 re-check: a search for Colorado eruvin surfaced only the Denver eruv (denvereruv.org), and no Aspen or Vail eruv page was found, so status stays unknown rather than confirmed no.

Booking: Call Chabad Aspen 970-544-3770 (no booking page or mikvah hours found; Google lists the office Mon-Fri 9:00-17:00, Sat 9:00-13:00). Listed as Chabad-supervised by totallyjewishtravel.com; Google Places shows no mikvah in Vail

What locals would tell you

  • Two separate towns: Aspen (hub, Chabad Aspen on W Main St) and Vail (Chabad Vail in Lionshead), about 63 km apart in a straight line and a drive of roughly 2 hours or more. Vail entries have their own coordinates and sit far outside the Aspen walk rings; pick one town for the whole Shabbat.
  • Aspen: Chabad Aspen (970-544-3770, Rabbi Mendel Mintz) has a 300-seat synagogue and mikvah. I could not confirm online minyan times, a Shabbat meal price, a booking page or a kosher market/cafe, but jewishaspen.com (Chabad's own site) could not be read by automated tools and may list them: check it in a browser and call before you book. Stay near W Main St: White Elephant and MOLLIE (about 6 min), Limelight and Hotel Jerome (10-11), St. Regis and Mountain Chalet (13). Little Nell, W Aspen and Aspen Meadows are 17+ min. None of the hotel pages and reviews I read states a Shabbat key or elevator: ask. The Aspen Jewish Congregation (77 Meadowood Dr, 970-925-8245) is Reform, listed for information only.
  • Vail: Chabad Vail (Rabbi Dovid Mintz, 970-688-2613) holds Shabbat Shacharit at 9:00 with a buffet Kiddush lunch; email the rabbi for the Friday night time. Shabbat dinners are booked on an online form: winter suggested donation $60 per person (Feb 13, 6:30 PM), summer $70 adult and $50 child (Aug 7, 8:30 PM). The hotels Chabad lists in Lionshead are a 1-5 min walk (Arrabelle, Hythe, Lion Square Lodge, Vail International).
  • Kosher Vail delivers prepaid Shabbat meals to hotels in Vail ($15), Avon and Beaver Creek ($25), about 4 PM on Friday; order 48 h ahead online with a card, and request oven-warming if needed. It is closed off-season and reopens for the ski season. No hechsher is named on the site, so ask Chabad. City Market (Vail, Aspen) carries kosher bread, challah and grape juice per Chabad Vail; I found no kosher restaurant in either town (not found online as of Nov 2026; ask Chabad).
  • Ski-season Shabbat: Friday candle lighting is already about 4:40 PM in early November (Aspen Nov 6: 4:43 PM, Vail 4:40 PM, 18 min before sunset) and earlier toward December, so finish skiing and reach your hotel early. No eruv is confirmed: skiing, lift tickets and passes, and carrying skis, poles or gear outdoors are generally not permitted on Shabbat. Ask the rabbi before relying on any carrying.
  • Getting there: Aspen village is about 7,900 ft (Vail about 8,150 ft), so drink water and go easy on day one. Denver (DEN) is about 4 hours by road to Aspen, and an IJN interview says winter weather can stretch it to 10. Flights into ASE can be delayed or diverted in storms, so arrive Thursday, not Friday. Vail guests usually fly into Eagle County (EGE). No kosher ski-tour operator or kosher hotel package for Aspen or Vail was found (Nov 2026: totallyjewishtravel.com's Aspen and Vail pages list none, and Gil Travel's kosher family ski package covers Lake Tahoe only).
  • Seasons: Chabad Aspen runs a summer lecture series (Google reviews) and Chabad Vail runs summer Shabbat dinners, a 4th of July Shabbat lunch and Camp Gan Israel in summer; rooms fill fast in July-August, Aspen Music Festival season. For Pesach, Chabad Aspen has hosted communal seders of about 350 (IJN 2014) and Chabad Vail listed a Passover Seder 2026; no hotel Pesach program was found, so contact the Chabad houses early.
  • Chabad of Breckenridge (side note, ski season): chabad.org lists Chabad-Lubavitch centers in Breckenridge but publishes no names, times or phone there, and Nov 2026 Google Places and web searches found no Breckenridge listing, so none is given here; confirm before planning a Shabbat there. Mikvah: only Aspen is known (Chabad); Google Places shows none in Vail.
  • Hotel keys: Booking.com lists key-card access for White Elephant, W Aspen, Four Seasons Vail, The Sebastian and Grand Hyatt Vail (the last two also list key access), but no source says any Aspen or Vail hotel supplies a mechanical key or Shabbat elevator, so ask before booking. Booking gives standard check-in from 4:00 PM and check-out until 11:00 AM at The Arrabelle and The Sebastian.

Seen in older guides, checked Nov 2026: Hotel Aspen (110 W Main St): not found under that name (Google Places and Booking.com, Nov 2026); the address now lists White Elephant Aspen, so renamed or replaced; no closure date found · Molly Gibson Lodge (Aspen): not found under that name (Booking.com did not list it); a Google search returned MOLLIE Aspen, so renamed or replaced; no closure date found · Chabad Aspen kosher market / cafe: not found online as of Nov 2026. 2014 articles describe a planned kosher catering center and take-out; Aspen Times pieces mention a kosher commercial kitchen with takeout and catering but nothing current, and Google Places finds no kosher market in Aspen (Clark's Market, Eddy's Marketplace and Butcher's Block show no kosher mention). Chabad Aspen's own site (jewishaspen.com) could not be read by automated tools, so a market or menu may be described there; call 970-544-3770 · Chabad of Breckenridge: not found online as of Nov 2026 (no name, address or phone in Google Places, web search or chabad.org, which lists centers there without names); ask Chabad Vail on 970-688-2613 · Aspen and Vail eruv: not found online as of Nov 2026 (Chabad Vail visitor pages, Google, web search); ask the rabbis (Aspen 970-544-3770, Vail 970-688-2613)
