Meyerland Minyan's site did not load. Chabad at the Medical Center's hotel page (chabadtmc.org/3572735) states 'There is no Eruv in the neighborhood'; no Galleria/Uptown eruv found (Chabad of Uptown's visitor page does not mention one). Chabad of West Houston has a separate eruv with weekly email alerts. Weekly status ↗

What locals would tell you

  • No hotel is walkable to a Meyerland or Fondren SW shul: Google Places shows no hotel within about 5 km (3 mi) of UOS or the Meyerland shuls, and none within 2.5 km (1.6 mi) of Young Israel or Chabad Center, whose nearest lodging is two budget motels (Fondren Inn and Easy 8, 3.0-3.1 stars) at 13245-13255 Fondren Rd. Either ask UOS or Young Israel to host you (UOS: uosh.org/shabbat-hospitality-program.html; YI: yihouston.org/form/hospitalityform) or stay by Chabad in the Medical Center or Galleria. Chabad at the Medical Center states there is no eruv in its neighborhood and none was found for the Galleria, so plan on not carrying there.
  • The community is two clusters about 4.6 mi apart: Willow Meadows/Meyerland (UOS, Meyerland Minyan, Torah Vachesed) and Fondren SW (Young Israel, Beth Rambam, Chabad Center). Pick one for the whole Shabbat. Houston is car-first and summer walks are hot and humid.
  • No live eruv status page or hotline found: call UOS 713-723-3850 or Young Israel 713-677-9640 by Thursday (YI office closes 3pm Fri). Candle lighting is 5:13pm on Nov 6.
  • Friday closings are early: Laykie's 2pm, Prime Grill 3pm, Sweet Spot 3pm, Saba's and Saba's Wok 3:30pm, Rafaello and Mexicano 4pm; Casa and Dave's Crunch House are closed all Friday. Most places close Saturday. H-E-B Meyerland (kosher section) stays open, so shop before sundown. Saba's takes pre-orders for pas Yisroel challah.
  • Shabbat meals: Chabad of Uptown holds a Friday night dinner every week after services (RSVP required; chabaduptown.org/templates/articlecco_cdo/aid/2074423/jewish/Shabbat-RSVP.htm). Chabad at the Medical Center's Friday service is followed by dinner by RSVP (713-522-2004). No restaurant prepaid Shabbat meal program found. HKA caterers also include Jenny Tavor (713-542-6530) and The Grille Catering (713-588-0823); hotels need an HKA mashgiach on site.
  • IAH is about 40 min and Hobby (HOU) about 25 min to Meyerland. Not found online as of Nov 2026: a kosher counter at IAH or Hobby (nothing on Chabad's, HKA's or MKT's lists read); pack food or ask HKA (kosherhouston.org). Meyerland flooded badly in Harvey (2017); call ahead after heavy rain. Plan NASA/Space Center and the Galleria for Sunday-Friday.
  • Two agencies appear on Houston lists: MKT (Mehadrin Kashrus of Texas, run through Chabad, texaskosher.org) and HKA; most restaurants are on both. At H-E-B Meyerland only items with the MKT logo are kosher, and its coffee shop is not.
  • Order ahead for Shabbat: TA'IM does Shabbos takeout per MKT; Casa Bar & Grill had a Shabbat menu per kosher.com (2023) but is closed Fridays; home baker Crumbs (347-705-9982) takes Shabbos orders until Wednesday.
  • Not on any kosher list read as of Nov 2026 (HKA, TORCH, Young Israel, Chabad MKT; Google Places checked): Kenny & Ziggy's (Galleria, open Saturdays), Three Brothers Bakery (S Braeswood, open Saturdays), Belden's Market, Suzie's Grill, Nosh, Bubbe's, Saba's Mediterranean Kitchen and Nekter Juice Bar (on kosher.com's 2023 guide, which disclaims any kashrut endorsement). That is not proof they are non-kosher, so ask MKT (texaskosher.org) or HKA before relying on any of them; HKA's own page shows a 2016 copyright, so its hours may be stale.

Seen in older guides, checked Nov 2026: Genesis Steakhouse & Wine Bar (80 Braeswood Square): the Houston Kashruth Association revoked its kosher certification in January 2025, the owner closed it, and the space reopened as Exodus Bar and Grill on May 15 2025, which is no longer kosher (Community Impact, 20 May 2025: https://communityimpact.com/bellaire-meyerland-west-university/dining/former-kosher-steakhouse-genesis-rebrands-as-a-non-kosher-neighborhood-restaurant/). Same address and phone (713-665-2222) now trade as Exodus, which has a bar, cocktails and Saturday hours; HKA and TORCH pages still list Genesis · The Bagel Shop on Hillcroft: no longer kosher since Oct 1 2022 per Young Israel's list (https://www.yihouston.org/restaurants.html); the Bellaire shop is still listed and is in food · A Taste of Tel Aviv / Pizza Tel Aviv (9804 Hillcroft, 832-203-5784, on older YI, TORCH and kosher.com 2023 lists): Chabad's MKT page (read Nov 2026) lists Mexicano at that address (added to food), so the old name and phone look stale; no closure date found. TA'IM at 9806 Hillcroft is confirmed
