What locals would tell you

  • Shabbat meals: Chabad House (Rabbi Shimon Lahiani) hosts guests by prior registration only: use the online form (app.flowiz.io/marr/en/f/) or message WhatsApp +212 674 955 563 about a week ahead; price and deadline are not published. Backups: Ohayon family +212 662 174 476, Halliwa family +212 666 573 471 (delivery), Schnitzel Factory Shabbat orders +212 652 133 178, Dar Ima build-your-own Shabbat meal.
  • Stay in Guéliz around Rue Ibn Qodama, Rue Ibn Sina or Rue Loubnane: Chabad House, Beth-El (Boulevard Zerktouni) and the kosher shops and restaurants are all within about 15 minutes' walk. There is no eruv, so pick a place with mechanical door access (Riad Mazal and Migdal Gueliz list mechanical doors).
  • Friday closing (Google hours): Ela bakery 14:00, Dar Ima 15:00, Wasabi, Al Dente and Schnitzel Factory 16:00, Sababa 16:15, Abehssera 17:30; winter candle-lighting is about 17:20 (17:21 on 6 Nov 2026, Shabbat ends 18:16). Shop Thursday or Friday morning; restaurants reopen Saturday night. Dar Ima, Wasabi and Al Dente deliver menu meals for Shabbat (community list, Dec 2025): order by Thursday. Agencies vary (Chabad at Wasabi; Casablanca Beth Din / Kashrut Commission at Al Dente, First Grill, Grill & Kosh); where none is named, ask for the certificate or supervisor.
  • Mellah and Slat Al Azama (museum, small fee, open Fri 09:00-16:00, closed Saturday per Google) are about 3 km from Guéliz: visit Friday morning by taxi. Do not count on a minyan there; Beth-El is the active shul.
  • Beth-El's guard controls entry and is only open around prayer times, no photos; go for services or coordinate through the community (+212 613 720 067). The Chabad House is a private home, so arrive only after confirming. Carry a passport copy; no registration requirement found. Bring dirhams in cash and dress modestly.
  • Airport RAK: no kosher counter found online as of Nov 2026 (checked Google Places), bring food and kiddush supplies. Pesach and Sukkot: The Address Club runs a Pesach programme at the Meridien N'Fis (Beth Din of Casablanca, daily minyanim; confirm year) and Chabad hosts holiday meals by WhatsApp registration.
  • The Chabad House is a private family home that serves Shabbat meals, not a daily minyan: a visitor reported turning up for morning prayers and being sent to Beth-El. Pray at Beth-El and confirm meal times with Chabad.
  • Not found online as of Nov 2026 (checked Google Places, Chabad Marrakech and the community-site listings): Avouhatzira Hadash (meat grill on the community list, +212 525 615 485 as written) and Dar Ima bakery (+212 666 795 450) have no address; Slat Al Pasein (reported closed since 2016, visits by arrangement), Joseph Biton synagogue (reported inactive) and Rabbi Pinchas HaCohen synagogue (reported open for special occasions only) have no regular minyan; Slat Al Azama is unresolved (Chabad says visits only, the community site lists daily Shacharit; see shuls). Chabad's current site is chabadmarrakech.org (chabadmarrakech.com is not it). Ask Chabad Marrakech on +212 674 955 563 before relying on any of these.

Seen in older guides, checked Nov 2026: Hôtel Les Trois Palmiers: found shut by arriving guests (TripAdvisor reviews of 9 Jan 2026 and 22 Feb 2026, the latter for a 13 Feb 2026 stay, which says it had been 'closed for some weeks due to an issue between the owner and the government'). These are guest reports, not an official notice: Booking.com has no listing (Nov 2026) and Google shows no permanently-closed flag, while Chabad's list still shows it (14 min walk from the Chabad House). It is NOT in the hotels list here; phone before booking.
