Three eruvs. Richmond/West Side (since Nov 2012; a Chevra Thilim project with Rabbi Zarchi, Rav Hamachshir Rabbi Manish Spitz; Clement St to Golden Gate Park, 16th to 42nd/43rd Ave): checked weekly, and only Friday confirmation validates it (sfshul.org). Sunset (since June 2009, Adath Israel): checked every erev Shabbos, status posted to @sunseteruv, which can text to a phone (Adath Israel page, Nov 2026). Noe Valley/Mission/Castro incl. Dolores Park (since Aug 2024, Rabbi Gedalia Potash of Chabad of Noe Valley): where its weekly status is posted was not found. Nob Hill, Union Square and Pacific Heights have none; Richmond Torah Center and Magain David sit east of 16th Ave, outside the Richmond eruv. What locals would tell you

  • Choose one side of the city: Chabad of SF (Nob Hill, 873 Sutter) and the Richmond shuls are about 3 miles apart. The Richmond has Richmond Torah Center, Anshey Sfard, Magain David, Chevra Thilim and Schneerson Center plus an eruv; Nob Hill has the Chabad meals and most hotels near a shul.
  • Book Chabad of SF Shabbat meals online by Wednesday evening ($50 dinner, $50 lunch, $90 both; after Wednesday call 415-987-8355). Schneerson Center hosts open-door meals (RSVP 415-724-8652); call Richmond Torah Center (415-420-5135) and Chevra Thilim (415-752-2866) early for a meal.
  • Check the eruv before Shabbat: Richmond (West Side) eruv is checked weekly and only Friday confirmation counts; Sunset @sunseteruv on X/Twitter (confirmed on Adath Israel's page; Richmond @sferuv not re-verified); a third eruv (Aug 2024) covers Noe Valley, Mission, Castro and Dolores Park via Chabad of Noe Valley. Nob Hill, Union Square and Pacific Heights have no eruv, and Richmond Torah Center and Magain David are outside the Richmond eruv. Assume it may be down after wind or storms.
  • Shabbat starts early in winter (4:48 pm on 6 Nov per Chabad of SF, ending 5:45 pm Saturday). Sabra Grill is closed Fri and Sat, Hummus Bodega posts a 5 pm Friday close, and Oakland Kosher closes 3 pm Friday: shop Thursday or early Friday. Kosher food at SFO was not found online as of Nov 2026 (Google Places shows only regular airport restaurants), so pack food. Local hechsher: Vaad of Northern California (sunrisekosher.org, 510-843-8223).
  • Hills, fog and wind: Nob Hill is steep between the hotels and 873 Sutter; the Richmond is flat but foggy and windy, so bring layers and a hat. Plan your walking route in advance, since cable cars, Muni (38 Geary runs along Geary Blvd) and rideshare are out on Shabbat.
  • Palo Alto is the alternative base (about 35 miles south): Chabad Palo Alto (3070 Louis Rd, 650-424-9800), a mikvah at the same address (650-493-5555), a Palo Alto eruv (per J. 2017; status not checked), plus Izzy's, Holy Sushi, Ma'lawah Bar and Mollie Stone's kosher meats. Oakland Kosher Foods is the East Bay stop.
  • Richmond lodging: Richmond Torah Center cannot host overnight guests. Its lodging list (page dated Nov 2016) and Chevra Thilim's visitor page both name Geary Parkway Motel (2 blocks from RTC): it has no elevator, digital locks with a physical key on request, and an office staffed about 9am-4pm per recent guests, so check in well before Friday sunset. Both lists also name Seal Rock Inn (545 Point Lobos, 415-752-8000; about 2 miles from the shuls).
  • Friday night and meals beyond Chabad of SF: Richmond Torah Center serves Friday dinner at 7:30 pm (per-meal charge, RSVP rtchabad.org/3742900 or 415-420-5135). Anshey Sfard holds a Young Professionals Sephardic Shabbat dinner on the first Friday of the month (6 Nov 2026) plus Shabbat lunch (RSVP admin@ansheysfard.com); Chevra Thilim has a Kiddush lunch every Shabbat and a young-professionals dinner on 20 Nov 2026. Magain David holds Friday-night services only about monthly; Chevra Thilim, Adath Israel and Noe Valley publish no winter Friday time, so call.

Seen in older guides, checked Nov 2026: Frena Bakery, Kosher Nosh and Tel Aviv Kosher Market: not on the Vaad of Northern California lists or the Chabad of SF kosher list, and not confirmed open or closed as of Nov 2026. Google Places finds no Kosher Nosh or Tel Aviv Kosher Market listing; Frena Bakery is listed at 5549 Geary Blvd (628-444-3666, the same address as Hummus Bodega), and one review says it was open about a month and then gone, with another location elsewhere; kosher certification not confirmed. · Wise Sons Jewish Delicatessen (3150 24th St, 415-831-7237): not on the Vaad of Northern California lists, and Google shows it open Saturday (8-3), so it is not a Shabbat option and not kosher-certified as far as found. · Congregation Keneseth Israel (Tenderloin) and SoMa Shul: services now run at 873 Sutter St (Nob Hill) under Chabad of SF; the Chabad office is 496 Natoma St · Young Israel of San Francisco: not found online as of Nov 2026 (checked Google Places, which returns no Young Israel listing in the city); the Orthodox shuls found are listed above. · Lucky Supermarket (1515 Sloat Blvd, 415-681-4300): open daily per Google and on Chabad of SF's kosher list, but no hechsher or kosher section was found in Google reviews or the Vaad lists as of Nov 2026; ask the store before relying on it. · Holy Sushi: Chabad of SF's list shows 4131 El Camino Real, but it is now at 3441 Alma St (Ma'lawah Bar is the tenant at 4131) · Grand Bakery (Oakland): Chevra Thilim's visitor page lists 3264 Grand Ave, but Google Maps now shows 3033 MacArthur Blvd (510-465-1110; Wed-Fri 10:00-14:00, closed Sat-Sun; one review mentions a ceremonial challah order); kosher certification not confirmed.
