What locals would tell you

  • Seward Park has no hotels, and the Seattle Va'ad notes there are no kosher restaurants or hotels inside the eruv. Ask the BCMH office (206-721-0970) to place you with a host for lodging and meals, or use the Home Hospitality form on minyanohrchadash.org/location; otherwise rent a home nearby.
  • Shabbat meals on the Seward Park side come through those hosts, so ask early. Downtown, Chabad of Downtown Seattle serves Friday night dinner ($100 donation per person) and a Shabbat day meal ($54): reserve on its online Community Shabbat Dinner form or email rabbi@chabaddowntownseattle.org (347-415-2271). In North Seattle, CSTL asks for an email at least a week ahead with your party size.
  • Friday comes early: candle lighting is about 4:26 PM on 6 Nov and 4:00 PM by 4 Dec, with Shabbat ending about 5:28-5:31 PM. Shop on Thursday or Friday morning; the QFCs at Mercer Island and University Village (kosher deli, sushi, bakery) are the main stock-up stops, and Einstein Bros at University Village closes at 2:00 PM Fridays.
  • Check the eruv Friday afternoon at eruvstat.us/sewardpark (showed 'NOT CHECKED', updated 30 Oct, when read on 1 Nov). Seward Park is hilly and November to March is wet, so bring waterproofs for the walk between shuls. Mercer Island has its own eruv (Island Synagogue 206-275-1539); none was found online as of Nov 2026 downtown, on Capitol Hill or in Bellevue.
  • Kosher infrastructure is thin: the Seattle Va'ad (seattlevaad.org) is the only agency certifying restaurants, and the open ones are mostly vegetarian or on the Eastside (Gilie's Mediterranean in Renton is the glatt meat option). A certified kosher outlet at SEA was not found online as of Nov 2026, so bring food for the flight; Pacific Northwest Kosher (5511 1st Ave S) is a warehouse and delivery service, not a shop.
  • Light rail (1 Line) runs from SEA toward Columbia City and Othello, but the Seward Park shuls are a few miles from the stations, so use a rideshare and land well before candle lighting. Capitol Hill Shul (Chabad of Capitol Hill, 206-898-9361) davens Shabbat morning at 11:00 AM at Seattle Hebrew Academy and holds Friday night services monthly only.

Seen in older guides, checked Nov 2026: Island Crust Cafe (Mercer Island): stopped preparing food under rabbinic supervision (Axios, Mar 2023), so it is no longer kosher-supervised; Google still lists the cafe as open, so confirm before eating. · Bamboo Garden Vegetarian Cuisine: closed during the pandemic per Axios, Mar 2023 · Seattle Kosher home delivery: a Jewish Review headline (not read) suggested it ended, but Pacific Northwest Kosher (206-772-1616, 5511 1st Ave S) is listed on Google as a warehouse and delivery service (see food; reviewers say calls often go unanswered), so it is not confirmed closed; call before visiting. · Ezra Bessaroth at 5217 S Brandon St: older guides list this address; the congregation's site and Google show 5412 Wilson Ave S · Minyan Ohr Chadash is not on Capitol Hill: it meets in Seward Park at 6721 51st Ave S · Not found online as of Nov 2026 (checked Google Places and the Va'ad and Chabad lists): Napoleon's, an Albertsons or PCC kosher department at Rainier or Seward Park, Kosher Coop, and a Mercer Island mikvah (the Chabad Mercer Island site links only a generic mikvah article); ask BCMH on 206-721-0970. Ashreichem Yisrael: a Google review says it closed in summer 2020 and that Minyan Ohr Chadash bought the building (one undated review, not confirmed elsewhere). · Chabad of Mercer Island does exist (9311 SE 36th St #100, 206-851-2324, chabadmercerisland.org) but its site posts no Shabbat service times or visitor hospitality details, only communal Shabbat dinners listed as past events; not added as a minyan · Muriel's (announced as 'Muri's', a kosher cafe at Third Place Books, Seward Park; The Cholent, Nov 2021): open per Google at 5041 Wilson Ave S (206-721-5866) as a Jewish-style eatery, and press reports in 2022 described a kosher dairy launch, but current kosher certification was not confirmed online as of Nov 2026, so it is not listed under food. Ask BCMH (206-721-0970) or the Seattle Va'ad before eating there.

Have it arranged: hotel confirmed, meals, driver →
