Eruv

No eruv

Chabad Tbilisi states flatly 'There is no Eruv in Tbilisi' (FAQ and Shabbat page, read Nov 2026), and Gil Travel says there are no eruvs in Georgia. No status page exists. Plan on no carrying, including strollers; Chabad House, the Great Synagogue and Beit Rachel are only 135-300 m apart.

Where to stay

Cron Palace Kosher Tbilisi Hotel

12/13 Kheivani St (II Dead End), 0114, Orthachala
Shabbat-ready notes

Kosher hotel with a kosher restaurant (Gil Travel, updated Apr 2026: strictly kosher and Shabbat-friendly). Booking.com Q&A says it gives both card and mechanical keys for Saturday, serves Friday-night and Shabbat-lunch meals and has a synagogue on site; a Tripadvisor guest says all food is kosher and the hotel 'Shabbat friendly'. Not walkable to the Old Town shuls (about 2.3 km straight line, roughly 35 min walk): the same guest calls it a poor location for Shabbat, so plan to pray on site or ask Chabad. Elevator listed; no Shabbat elevator stated. · +995 32 224 23 21

Hotel Sharden

32 Gr. Khanzteli St, Sololaki, 0101
Ask for a mechanical key

On Chabad's nearby-hotel list: 1 min to Chabad House, about 2 min to the Great Synagogue and 3 min to Beit Rachel (my estimate). Chabad's list gives no Shabbat details. Booking.com lists 'Key access' (not 'key card') and an elevator; its Q&A has nothing on keys, Shabbat elevator or kosher breakfast. Google (4.2/5, 396) mixes praise with recent complaints of in-room theft: ask about a physical key. Rechecked Nov 2026: Tripadvisor reviews and Google reviews have no Shabbat, key-type or kosher mentions. A generic Booking.com Q&A answer covering five hotels said they 'typically' use key cards, but it was not property-specific and Booking lists 'Key access', so this stays unknown. · +995 599 80 19 92

Hotel Kalasi

25 Kote Abkhazi St, Sololaki, 0105
Ask for a mechanical key

On Chabad's nearby-hotel list (5 min); about 430 m (7 min) to the Great Synagogue and 180 m to Beit Rachel. Booking.com lists 'Key access', an elevator and 24-hour desk; no Shabbat statement, and its Q&A has no key or kosher-breakfast information. Google (4.2/5, 320) includes a bed-bug complaint. Rechecked Nov 2026: Tripadvisor reviews and Google reviews have no Shabbat, key-type or kosher mentions. · +995 32 243 96 00

Hotel Marlyn

3 Kote Abkhazi (Leselidze) St, Sololaki, 0105
Ask for a mechanical key

On Chabad's nearby-hotel list (7 min to Chabad House); about 8 min to the Great Synagogue. Booking.com lists 'Key access', an elevator and a restaurant; Booking score 7.9. No Shabbat information found; Google guests mention noisy street-facing rooms and some mold complaints. Ask for a courtyard room and a physical key. Rechecked Nov 2026: Tripadvisor reviews and Google reviews have no Shabbat, key-type or kosher mentions. · +995 557 99 98 89

Hotel Khokhobi Old Tbilisi

7 Abano Turn, 0105
Shabbat-ready notes

Totally Jewish Travel (kosher-travel site) lists it as 'Non-Kosher, Jewish Observant Friendly', Israeli-owned, offering a kosher kitchen for guests to cook their own meals, 7 min walk from Chabad; it is also on Chabad's nearby-hotel list (8 min) and named by Gil Travel as walkable to Chabad. No mechanical key, Shabbat elevator or kosher breakfast is stated: ask. Booking.com lists both 'Key access' and 'Key card access' plus an elevator (score 9.0). Google guests (4.7/5) note the entrance is on a pedestrian lane, so heavy luggage is a hassle; one reports bar music at night and one that staff said no food was available. · +995 595 08 72 09

Mercure Tbilisi Old Town

9 Vakhtang Gorgasali St, 0105
Ask for a mechanical key

On Chabad's nearby-hotel list (7 min to Chabad House), by the river near the sulfur baths; about 9 min to the Great Synagogue. Booking.com lists an elevator, restaurant and 24-hour desk but no key type; its Q&A has no Shabbat information. Booking 8.9, Google 4.7 (1,552 reviews), none mentioning Shabbat. Ask for a mechanical key and elevator arrangement. Rechecked Nov 2026: Tripadvisor reviews and Google reviews have no Shabbat, key-type or kosher mentions. · +995 32 200 60 60

Wyndham Grand Tbilisi

Guests report Shabbat-friendly

On Chabad's nearby-hotel list (7 min to Chabad House); about 13 min to the Great Synagogue. A kosher group programme (Winter 2021, Rabbi Nachshoni's supervision, Arkia flights) used this hotel with a beit knesset and Sefer Torah on site (koshertravelers.com PDF): group arrangement only, not a standing hotel policy. Booking.com lists both 'Key access' and 'Key card access' plus an elevator; no Shabbat elevator stated. · +995 32 243 90 00

Point Hotel Tbilisi

15 Anton Katalikosi St, 0105
Ask for a mechanical key

Gil Travel lists it as adjacent to Chabad House (about 350 m by coordinates, 6 min to the Great Synagogue). No Shabbat information found. Google guests say it is a two-floor building where luggage goes up stairs, the rooftop was closed in October and the in-house restaurant seemed not to operate. Rechecked Nov 2026: Google reviews have no Shabbat, key-type or kosher mentions; not found in Booking.com inventory. · +995 555 68 20 91

Totally Jewish Travel lists it as 'NON Kosher, Jewish Observant Friendly' and '2 minutes walk from Chabad'; by coordinates it is about 80 m from Beit Rachel, 210 m from Chabad House and 230 m from the Great Synagogue. No key type, Shabbat elevator or kosher-breakfast statement found, and not listed on Booking.com under this name. Google guests (4.7/5, 126 reviews) mention private parking and an owner who answers WhatsApp quickly; none mention Shabbat. Ask about a mechanical key and the elevator before booking. · +995 550 05 43 33

Genesis Kosher Hotel Tbilisi

2 Gulua St, 0108, Orthachala
Shabbat-ready notes

Kosher hotel per Totally Jewish Travel (supervision 'Local Rabbi/Vaad'; 'Kosher Badatz Kehillot and Rabbi Chaim Attias'); Booking.com Q&A (Nov 2026) calls it a kosher property and says a guest who asked about booking for the whole Sabbath was told to book the room and pay for late check-out; Google guests praise the kosher restaurant (undated). Same district as Cron Palace, about 2.2 km straight line from Chabad House and the Old Town shuls, so not walkable on Shabbat. Synagogue, Shabbat meals, Shabbat elevator and key type are not stated (Booking lists both 'Key access' and 'Key card access'): confirm before booking. · +972 2-624-1292 (Israeli number on Google)

The same prayer page lists weekday Mincha 20:00 and Maariv 21:10, but its metadata shows it was last changed 8 Jul 2026, so these are summer times and no winter Mincha/Maariv schedule is published: confirm by WhatsApp. Shabbat ends 18:32 on 7 Nov (Chabad). Chabad's prayer page lists only the Chabad House schedule. jguideeurope says Shabbat and festival services are held regularly here with a welcoming Shabbat dinner for visitors; the men's mikveh inside is open during prayer times (Chabad). What locals would tell you

  • Where to stay: Chabad's FAQ states there is no eruv, so sleep within walking distance of Chabad House (7 Bambis Rigi), the Great Synagogue (135 m away) and Beit Rachel (about 300 m). Sololaki and the Old Town are steep and cobbled, and Chabad's hotel list gives walking minutes only and no Shabbat details. Hotel Khokhobi (kosher kitchen for guests, Totally Jewish Travel) and Hotel Terrace (about 80 m from Beit Rachel, 'Jewish Observant Friendly') are the closest listed options; the kosher Cron Palace and Genesis Kosher Hotel are both about 2.2-2.3 km out in Orthachala, so pray on site or ask Chabad.
  • Shabbat meals: register in advance on Chabad's form (app.flowiz.io/tblr/en/f/) or WhatsApp +995 551 009 655; the Friday-night meal is held at Mendi's (shabat.ge, preregistration mandatory). Price, meal times and deadline are not published. Candle lighting is 17:32 and Shabbat ends 18:32 for 6-7 Nov 2026 (Chabad); Friday-night services start about 10 minutes after candle lighting.
  • Friday closing: Chabad's dairy kitchen and Mendi's close at 15:00 on Friday (Chabad pages). Google shows Kosher Station closing at 14:00, Milk & Honey 16:00, Shalom Aleichem and King David 17:00; Organique and La Casa are closed Friday and Saturday. On Saturday night Elchikos opens 19:30 and the Jerusalem restaurant 21:00 (Google). KFS (15 Hovanes Tumaniani St, +995 599 66 18 18, take-away, cash only, Fri 11:00-16:30, closed Sat; Google 4.7/5) is another Old Town option but its supervision was not found.
  • Hechsherim: Chabad (Rabbi Meir Kozlovsky, mehadrin, chalav Yisrael) covers Mendi's and the dairy kitchen; most other restaurants cite the Chief Rabbi of Georgia, Avimelech Rosenblat (Totally Jewish Travel listings). King David, Milk & Honey and Elchikos had no certifying rabbi in any source I read. Gil Travel says OU and Russian Rabbinate marks are common on supermarket goods. A dedicated kosher wine shop was not found online as of Nov 2026 (checked Google, Chabad and travel pages). Chabad House sells Tzion Winery wines and grape juice and kosher Salguni and Imeruli cheeses (Chabad product list, Hebrew), and King David serves a kosher Georgian Saperavi.
  • Entry and security: Israeli citizens enter Georgia without a visa for up to one year (Georgian MFA); check your own passport on the MFA or e-visa site, as I did not verify US rules. Ring or ask the guard in the Great Synagogue courtyard before entering (Google guests; tourist hours Sun-Thu 9:00-15:00, closed Fri-Sat). Airport TBS: kosher food there was not found online as of Nov 2026 (searched Google, Chabad and travel pages), so carry Shabbat food or buy from Chabad, Kosher Station or Elchikos.
  • Side trips: Chabad says Gori and Kutaisi hold Shabbat services but 'don't always get a minyan'; Kutaisi's Great Synagogue dates from 1852 (Gil Travel). Batumi has Chabad House with Mendis Kosher at 10 Vakhtang Gorgasali St (Shabbat meals; Fri 11:30-14:30; Google phones +995 595 90 05 74 for Mendis and +995 551 12 23 69 for Chabad House Batumi), the Ashkenazi Batumi Synagogue at 33 Vazha-Pshavela St (Shabbat prayers are held there, not at Chabad, and a guest says security asks if you are Israeli) and the King Solomon Kosher Hotel (Gil Travel).
  • Synagogue count: Chabad's own Synagogues page (https://chabadtbilisi.ge/en/judaism-type/189/) lists only Shaarei Tefilah (the Great Synagogue, Kote Afkhazi 45) and Beit Rachel (Kote Afkhazi 28) besides the Chabad House, so the three shuls above are all Chabad lists in Tbilisi. A Hebrew-language search for a Tbilisi Chabad minyan returned only lametayel.co.il pages, which could not be opened, so any other minyan Israeli visitors use is not ruled out: ask Chabad on WhatsApp +995 551 009 655.
  • Not found online as of Nov 2026, so not listed: Halavi-Hummus 'Jerusalem Kosher' (5 Ierusalim Square, +995 555 55 77 25) is open per Google (4.2) and its Google hours include Saturday 8:00-20:00, which suggests it is not Shabbat-observant; no certifier was found, and it is not the Jerusalem Kosher Restaurant above. Gallery Palace hotel (5 Pavle Ingorokva St, +995 32 244 04 40) is open per Google (3.7) and Gil Travel calls it a kosher hotel with a kosher restaurant and a synagogue, but no guest review, Tripadvisor page or Booking.com listing found confirms this, and December 2025 reviews report check-in and booking problems: ask Chabad before relying on it.
  • Address and source notes: older listings give Chabad's synagogue as 25 Kote Afkhazi (Chabad's FAQ still shows it and Google pins it at the Chabad House), while Chabad's current pages use 7 Bambis Rigi; Hotel Kalasi is at 25 Kote Abkhazi, a different building. Chabad's product list (chabadtbilisi.ge/en/food/57/) lists goods sold at Chabad House, not restaurants, and Totally Jewish Travel's overview list of Tbilisi eateries did not load, so King David, Milk & Honey and Elchikos could not be cross-checked there.
